Skidding Mavs open homestand vs. Warriors

Basketball Betting Lines

02/03/2010 - (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - The Dallas Mavericks will try to put the brakes on a season-high three-game losing streak tonight, when they open a quick homestand versus the Golden State Warriors at American Airlines Center.

Dallas' current skid has dwindled its lead in the Southwest Division to just two games over the San Antonio Spurs. In a 104-92 setback against the Utah Jazz on Monday in Salt Lake City, Dirk Nowitzki had 28 points and eight rebounds for the Mavericks, who haven't lost four straight since last January.

"We battled like crazy the first three quarters, and then they hit us with a 20-6 run to start the fourth," Mavs coach Rick Carlisle said. "We didn't get the job done in the fourth obviously, and probably expended too much energy coming back from a seven-point halftime deficit. It's about putting 48 good minutes together and finishing. We didn't do it."

Jason Terry scored 19 points in defeat and has started the last seven games, averaging 17.7 points, 1.7 rebounds, 4.6 assists, 1.7 steals and 36.6 minutes over that stretch. Nowitzki is the only player in the NBA to average 25.0 points, 8.0 rebounds, 1.0 steals and 1.0 blocks this season.

The Mavs will also host Minnesota and are 14-8 in Big D this season.

Golden State has dropped six in a row and hopes to close out a three-game road trip on a winning note. The losing trend continued with Tuesday's 119-97 setback at Houston, as Monta Ellis notched 34 points on 13-of-22 shooting from the field. The already shorthanded Warriors were without forward Corey Maggette due to a left hip pointer. Maggette is day-to-day.

"It was one of those games. I was shooting and it was going in. Unfortunately, we didn't get the win," Ellis said. "I really didn't know what to expect coming out, but as my wrists got loose, it felt pretty good."

Stephen Curry had 14 points in the loss for Golden State, which is 4-21 away from Oakland this season.

The Warriors beat Dallas earlier this season, 111-103, on November 24 in the Lone Star State and have won 10 of the past 18 matchups between the clubs. The Mavs, however, are 16-5 in the past 21 encounters in this series.
