Serena, Wozniacki reach fourth round at Wimbledon

Tennis Betting Lines

06/26/2010 - Wimbledon, England (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Serena Williams continued her quest for a second straight Wimbledon title Saturday with a 6-0, 7-5 third-round victory over Dominika Cibulkova. Third-seeded U.S. Open runner-up Caroline Wozniacki joined Williams in the round of 16.

The world No. 1 Williams cruised in the first set, which took all of 18 minutes, but Cibulkova improved on serve in the second. Still, Williams stayed in control, firing 14 aces and totaling 25 winners in the second, and had match point before the Slovak held serve to knot it at 5-5.

Williams held serve, then got her only break of the set to seal the victory, which could set up a fourth-round matchup with Maria Sharapova, who is facing Czech Barbora Zahlavova Strycova on Saturday.

The 28-year-old Williams beat her older sister Venus in last year's final to capture her third career Wimbledon championship. She owns 12 Grand Slam singles titles overall and also currently holds the Australian Open crown.

The Danish Wozniacki, meanwhile, handled 29th-seeded Russian Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova 7-5, 6-4 to set-up a fourth-rounder against Czech Petra Kvitova, who ousted 14th-seeded former top-10 Belarusian star Victoria Azarenka with a surprising 7-5, 6-0 triumph.

Also Saturday, seventh-seeded Agnieszka Radwanska of Poland eased into the fourth round with a 6-3, 6-1 win against 32nd-seeded Italian Sara Errani and ninth-seeded Chinese Li Na leveled Aussie Anastasia Rodionova 6-1, 6-3.

Radwanska will encounter Li in the round of 16.

Academy Award Betting Odds for Best Picture Offer Great Value

If there is any category that is not an obvious win for any one nominee in this year's Academy Awards, it would be for Best Picture.  Sure the Departed is a 5/7 favorite, but that's hardly anything when we look at Helen Mirren and her "out-of-reach" 1 to 40 odds (which means you would win a whopping $1 for every $40 bet).

For value, take a look at MySportsbook.com Oscars betting odds on my personal favorite, The Queen - a remarkable 12 to 1 long shot.  The film hasn't won any pre-awards for Best Picture (compared to The Departed and Little Miss Sunshine), but there is a tremendous following and it is a strong enough film to warrant a surprise win.

TV Guide advises Oscar watchers should be cautioned not to discount the  drama "Babel" with its strong social themes about overcoming communication gaps among people of different cultures.

"While 'Babel' lost several guild awards to 'Sunshine' and 'Departed,'  it still enjoys loyal support, and historically Oscar voters favor dramas with social messages over comedies like 'Sunshine' and violent crime movies like 'Departed'."

"It hasn't done well in the guilds, which means there isn't much industry support," said Tom O'Neil of awards site TheEnvelope.com, "But several critics are expecting it to win, and that gets my attention." Babel had 7 to 2 odds at press time.

Who is to say independently produced Little Miss Sunshine won't be this year's Crash.  Last year, Crash won for Best Motion Picture, shocking those who bet on gay cowboy flick, Brokeback Mountain, as the favorite to win.

Matt Kenseth And Kevin Harvick Favorites To Take NASCAR Nextel Cup Championship

(September 15)—The NASCAR season has hit the homestretch with the opening event on this year’s Chase for the Cup taking place this weekend at the Sylvania 300 at New Hampshire International Speedway. With 10 races remaining to determine the Cup Series champion, leading online sportsbook MySportsbook.com today announced odds on all 10 Chase qualifying drivers capturing the NASCAR Sprint Cup Championship.

One of the largest sportsbook sites on the Internet, MySportsbook.com currently lists the top two drivers in the point standings as the early favorites to win the Nextel Cup. Entering the Chase for the Cup with a slim five-point lead in the point standings, 2003 NASCAR champ Matt Kenseth has been made a slight favorite to win his second Cup at 7/2 betting odds. 2001 Cup Rookie of the Year Kevin Harvick has betting odds listed at 5/2 and four-time NASCAR champion Jeff Gordon is listed at 6/1 to capture the Nextel Cup this year.

Hoping to follow in the footsteps of his legendary father who won six NASCAR titles, Dale Earnhardt Jr. stands at 8/1 to breakthrough with his first Cup victory. Staying with the family theme, MySportsbook.com lists 2005 Rookie of the Year Kyle Busch at 14/1 to succeed big brother Kurt’s 2004 NASCAR title. While Kasey Kahne was the final driver to qualify for the Chase with a third place finish last week, the oddsmakers give him a fighting chance at 10/1 mainly due to several mile-and-a-half tracks remaining on the schedule. Despite going winless on the NASCAR circuit this season, Jeff Burton enters the Chase at 5/1 to capture the Cup title. Meanwhile, rookie Denny Hamlin is 4/1 to win the championship, while veteran driver Mark Martin enters the Chase for the Cup as a 15/1 long shot to win his first NASCAR title in his 24th and final season.

MySportsbook.com will offer comprehensive Nascar betting lines on every race remaining on the Nextel Cup series including driver match-ups, props and odds to win each race. For a complete list of NASCAR odds, please visit www.MySportsbook.com.
