Grizzlies battle Lobos in first round of 2010 NCAA Tournament
NCAA Basketball Betting Lines
03/18/2010 -
San Jose, CA (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - The first round of the 2010 NCAA Tournament's
East Region features a matchup between the third-seeded New Mexico Lobos and
the 14th-seeded Montana Grizzlies.
The winner of this tilt will battle either sixth-seeded Marquette or 11th-
seeded Washington on the hardwood.
Montana earned the Big Sky Conference's automatic bid to the "Big Dance" with
a surprising victory over Weber State in the conference tourney title game.
The Grizzlies, who are 22-9 overall, are making their ninth NCAA Tournament
appearance, and they are 2-8 all-time in the event. They last took part in the
NCAA Tournament back in 2006 and reached the second round.
As for the Lobos, the fact that they earned a No. 3 seed with an at-large bid
from the Mountain West Conference shows great respect for both the program and
that league. They are 29-4 overall and are currently the eighth-ranked team in
the AP Poll. New Mexico owns a 6-12 record in 12 previous NCAA Tournament
appearances, and they last took part in this event back in 2005. The Lobos
have advanced to the second round six times in program history and are heavily
favored to do so tonight.
Montana owns a 16-7 series advantage over New Mexico, but the teams haven't
met since the 1961-62 campaign.
The leader of this Montana team is First-Team All-Big Sky Conference performer
Anthony Johnson, who has started all 31 of his team's games this season.
Johnson is racking up 19.6 ppg on 50.6 percent shooting from the floor,
including 46.6 percent accuracy from three-point range. Johnson is also tops
with 3.0 apg for the Grizzlies, who are averaging 70.0 ppg while permitting
61.2 ppg. There are no other double-digit scorers on the roster, but players
like Brian Qvale (9.7 ppg, 6.9 rpg) can be counted on for solid contributions.
Johnson was simply dominant in the Big Sky Tournament title game, as he poured
in 42 of his team's 66 points in a one-point victory over Weber State. Don't
be surprised to see UNM surround Johnson on every possession and force other
Grizzlies to make big shots.
There are four double-digit scorers on the New Mexico roster, which is posting
76.6 ppg while limiting opponents to 67.1 ppg. The Lobos are led by Mountain
West Conference Player of the Year Darington Hobson, who provides 16.2 ppg,
9.2 rpg, 152 assists and 42 steals, proof of the tremendous versatility of the
6-7 guard. Roman Martinez is netting 13.8 ppg on the strength of his 42.2
percent shooting from three-point range, and he is also grabbing 6.0 rpg in
addition to notching 50 steals. Dairese Gary scores 12.7 ppg, and Phillip
McDonald adds 10.7 ppg. The Lobos are outrebounding opponents by 5.7 rpg, and
they have attempted a staggering total of 869 foul shots, proof of their
aggressiveness at the offensive end of the court. Steve Alford, a great player
in his own days, roams the sidelines for New Mexico and is the MWC Coach of
the Year.

Big 12 Conference betting odds
Work left to do: Texas Tech, Oklahoma State, Kansas State
Texas joins Texas A&M and Kansas as locks after getting league win No. 11. Texas Tech greatly helped its own hopes and crippled OK State's with the two-point win Saturday. Is K-State the last reasonable hopeful? Could be an elimination match in Stillwater on Tuesday, at least for the Cowboys.
Work left to do:
Texas Tech [18-11 (7-7), RPI: 44, SOS: 12] A critical two-point win over OK State leaves the Red Raiders with Baylor and at Iowa State left. Get both and the Red Raiders likely are good to go. Get one and there could be some interesting comparisons with a K-State team that could finish two or three games "ahead" of them in the standings but doesn't have any of the quality wins Texas Tech has. Not a lot in nonconference play (against Arkansas in Little Rock being the best win, by far) to lean on.
Oklahoma State [18-9 (5-8), RPI: 50, SOS: 35] Still without a road win, the Cowboys now need to win two on the road just to get to .500 in conference play. It's hard to recall a team (OK, other than Clemson) falling so precipitously from lock status to almost certainly out of the NCAAs at this point. There are wins to be had in the last three, including a very big home game against K-State on Tuesday, but this team is reeling. Can you tell the pressure to win is getting to them with the way the final possession played out at Texas Tech? There are some good nonconference performances to lean on, specifically beating Missouri State and Syracuse on neutral floors and Pitt in OK City, but if the Pokes don't right this very, very soon, that won't be enough.
Kansas State [20-9 (9-5), RPI: 56, SOS: 96] It pays to be in the Big 12 North. The nine league wins are Colorado (twice), Missouri (twice), Iowa State (twice), Baylor, Nebraska and (a good one against) Texas. That helps explain the middling computer profile. The win over USC is nice, but the nonconference leaves a lot to be desired. The game at OK State in Stillwater on Tuesday is huge, as it could KO the Cowboys and leave K-State with a home date against Oklahoma with which to work.
Stanley Cup betting
New York, NY – October 3, 2007 – The dress rehearsal is over! The NHL preseason has ended and now that fans have had a glimpse of what is to come it is time to hit the book! Stanley Cup odds are live at MySportsbook.com, the world’s largest online sportsbook and casino.
The Ottawa Senators and Detroit Red Wings remain on top of the odds charts after an impressive start in the preseason. Betting lines opened for both teams at 6-1 in June. Since then the Sens have fallen to 7-1 and the Red Wings are now caught in a pack including the defending champion Carolina Hurricanes, the San Jose Sharks and the Anaheim Ducks, all at 10-1.
MySportsbook.com has also posted props on each team’s point total for the regular season. The Senators lead the charge at 108.5 followed by the Ducks at 106.5. Detroit will attempt a repeat for the prize as the Red Wings are deadlocked with the Predators at 104.5 a piece. The temporary loss of highly touted rookie Evgeni Malkin puts a lot of pressure on the stick of assistant captain Sidney Crosby - his lowly Pittsburgh Penguins are listed at 71.5.
Even if bettors are not brave enough to put their money on the underdog, an early bet on the favorites at sportsbook.com tends to produce bigger payouts than a mid-season wager. Placing a $1,000 bet last summer on the Detroit Red Wings or Ottawa Senators would have paid out to $8,000 and $10,000 respectively, opposed to a $2,500 or $3,000 payout at the beginning of the playoffs.
