Kurt Suzuki homered in the fourth inning for the Athletics, who snapped an eight-game skid going back to last season. Ian Snell threw the first six frames for the Mariners and yielded three hits and a run with a pair of walks while fanning four. Seattle's lone run came in the fourth inning when Franklin Gutierrez scored on a wild pitch. Seattle right-hander Kanekoa Texeira (0-1), who suffered the loss, made his major league debut and escaped a huge jam in the ninth. Ellis singled and Travis Buck had a broken-bat double, both with one out. Cliff Pennington then walked, but Rajai Davis struck out on a low pitch. Daric Barton got ahead 3-1 in the count, but was out on a lazy fly ball to left. Edwar Ramirez (1-0) retired the side in order in the top of the 10th, and Texeira fanned Ryan Sweeney to start the bottom of the inning. Kevin Kouzmanoff and Suzuki singled. Eric Patterson came on as a pinch-runner for Kouzmanoff, but remained at second when Eric Chavez lined out to left. Ellis then struck an 0-2 pitch on a line to the gap in right-center field to win the game. Gutierrez doubled to left with one out in the fourth, went to third on a two- out balk and came home on a wild pitch from Braden. The A's tied it in the bottom half when Suzuki belted a 1-1 offering from Snell over the wall in left field. The A's loaded the bases later in the frame, but Davis grounded back to the mound to end the threat. Oakland didn't get another hit until the eighth on a Kouzmanoff infield single, but Suzuki then grounded into an inning-ending double play. Game Notes The A's left 12 men on base...This was just the sixth win in the last 24 games for the Athletics against the Mariners...Snell threw 100 pitches, 61 for strikes...Mariners right fielder Ichiro Suzuki went 1-for-3 and has a 22-game hitting streak against the A's.
